Prof. Wu received her Ph.D degree from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, USA. Professor Wu held faculty positions in California Institute of Technology, Florida State University and University of Maryland in USA prior to joining Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Her major scientific contribution included the mapping of tRNA genes and histone genes (J. Mol. Biol. 71: 81‑93, Cell 9: 163‑169, Cell 11: 763‑777) and the mapping of chromosomal gene position using in situ hybridization (Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci., USA 78: 7059‑7063, Chromosoma 93, 305‑312). Her recent research established the associations between certain single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on human xenobiotic metabolism enzyme (XME) genes with disease risks and drug sensitivities.
