We explore the potential of bacteriophages as therapeutic agents to address antimicrobial resistance. Our focus is on isolating and characterizing lytic bacteriophages that infect clinically relevant pathogens, particularly Streptococcus pneumoniae and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Additionally, we investigate the role of temperate bacteriophages (prophages) within the genome of Streptococcus pneumoniae. By inducing and characterizing these prophages, we aim to clarify their contributions to bacterial pathogenicity, genetic diversity, and interactions between hosts and phages.
